INDIANAPOIS (WISH) - School security is only as strong as its weakest link. I-Team 8 found a lot of weak links in the security chain at many central Indiana schools.

All schools are supposed to keep every door locked tight, except for the front door. But investigative reporter Rick Dawson, using a covert camera, documents numerous security breaches.

A nationally known school security expert reviews our findings and cautions school districts to keep their guard up.

State Superintendent of Education, Dr. Tony Bennett reacts to the investigation by pointing out the state now has a dedicated safety director with a specific job description. "Checking safety plans of schools, doing spot checks," responds Bennett. "In much the same way you're doing."

The investigation can be seen daily on Daybreak at 6:45am just as many parents are getting their children ready for school. We'll be seeking input all week from parents, teachers and students to report past security issues at schools, and to suggest ways to keep schools even more secure.

We'll also post documents on wishtv.com to see how much federal funding every school district has received every year since the siege at Columbine High School. We'll reveal why that funding has dwindled the past decade.

Watch 24 Hour News 8 all starting Monday at 6:45 a.m. during Daybreak.
