INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - On Tuesday, Governor Mitch Daniels honored two men who saved the
life of a truck driver following a tanker explosion last month.
Robert Skaggs and Lonnie Hood each received the Governor's
Heroism Award in a ceremony in the governor's office.
They worked together to pull truck driver Ronald Tobias from
the wreckage of his truck after the tanker he was pulling exploded
on an I-69 ramp under I-465 (
Special Section: Tanker Explosion).
Skaggs said he unaware of the danger.
“But as far as the fire, I didn't feel it. I didn't even know it was on fire til I heard my wife holler it's on fire and that's when I realized it was on fire and that's when I told Mr. Tobias we had to go,” said Skaggs.
Skaggs visited Tobias in the hospital the night of the explosion but says he has not spoken with him since.
A couple from Benton County was arrested for meth Saturday afternoon.
