INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The effort to bail out the Capital Improvement Board hit a snag at the Statehouse Tuesday evening.
After a three-hour hearing on ways to raise money to operate Conseco Fieldhouse and Lucas Oil Stadium, State Representative Bill Crawford withdrew his version of a CIB bailout from consideration.
It means that the House Ways and Committee may not pass a
separate bailout bill. However, it will still be possible to
include a bailout proposal in the state budget bill that will be
considered on the House floor Wednesday.
Crawford announced they will reconvene at 11 a.m. to
reconsider the bailout bill.
A representative of the city of Indianapolis tried to
convince state lawmakers that the bailout would be good for the
entire state.
The withdrawal of the bill comes after lawmakers from both parties expressed support for a bailout but questioned the size of the $20 million request.
If a bailout is not revived on the House floor, it could still
be inserted in the state Senate.
