HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) - Hoosiers have just a few more hours to decide the fate of a
seven-year, multi-million dollar school referendum.
The school district is asking voters to pay extra property
taxes to fund a $5.5 million a year operating cost shortage.
The school district said without the referendum, teachers
will be cut and class sizes will grow.
School officials in Hamilton County said that's why they need
voters to vote yes on the seven-year $38.5 million dollar
referendum.
The district is asking for a seven year property tax bump of
up to 10 cents of every $100.
In the meantime, Hamilton Southeastern is already in the
process of suing the state, hoping to fix what it calls an unfair
funding formula that penalizes growing school districts, but the
outcome of that won't be known for two to three years.
Last week, taxpayers in fast growing Franklin Township
rejected a plan to raise money for the school district's general
fund.
Polls will close at 6 p.m. eastern time. Check back with
