INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Indiana House Speaker Brian Bosma spelled out his priorities for the 2013 General Assembly Thursday and it's a short list.
Surrounded by his leadership team, Bosma called for a balanced budget and improvement in two very broad areas, jobs and education.
That's the entire list.
Yet the potential exists for lots of activity in the Indiana House on divisive social issues that include a constitutional ban on same sex marriage and new attempts to restrict abortion. Bosma won't rule that out.
"Issues, all kinds of issues are important to all kinds of different people," said Bosma, "So we'll treat them just as we do any other issue, fair and open hearings."
Democrat Scott Pelath tweeted that what Bosma is saying is that he won't kill any bills that a committee chair won't kill.
It likely means you can look forward to a lot of discussion of social issues come January. Meantime, perhaps the most specific proposal in the Bosma agenda was a pledge to promote early childhood education. There is no proposal to fund it, at least not yet.
