INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A committee in the General Assembly gave its approval Monday morning to the House GOP budget that eliminates the income tax cut sought by Gov. Mike Pence.
The vote in the House Ways and Means committee was 18-4 with two Democrats joining the Republicans who support the bill. It spends more on schools than the Pence budget, but some school district will still see cuts.
"No matter what they say, how they frame it, the dollars are not there," said Rep. Greg Porter (D-Indianapolis), "and it hurts various school corporations, particularly minority school corporations."
"I do know people are disappointed," said Committee Chairman Rep. Tim Brown (R-Crawfordsville). "Not everyone can have everything they needed, or wanted, or desired."
The committee will consider amendments to the budget on Tuesday.
