Governor candidates debate for 2nd time

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - Indiana's three candidates for governor faced each other Wednesday night in the second of three debates ahead of the election.

Democrat John Gregg, Republican Mike Pence and Libertarian Rupert Boneham all participated in the hour-long debate at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend that broadcast by several television and radio stations around the state.

In one of the first questions, Pence and Gregg found agreement that the state will be better able to retire its debts for the pensions of state employees, police, firefighters and others if it grows the economy, generates more tax dollars and earmarks the additional revenues for paying down the debt.

The last of the three gubernatorial debates sponsored by the Indiana Debate Commission is set for Oct. 25 in Fort Wayne.
