INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The Indiana General Assembly unanimously passed a bill Thursday that will protect children from neglect and abuse.

The legislation, named Senate Bill 202, says that if a person files a petition for a guardianship role, that person is required to inform a court of any child abuse or neglect.

A Department of Child Services study is why the bill was written.

Rep. Dan Forestal (D-Indianapolis) co-sponsored the bill.

Bill 202 will advance to the Senate for further review.
