INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana's voter turnout in this year's general election fell off this year when compared to 2008's level of 62 percent.
Indiana Secretary of State Connie Lawson said Thursday that 58 percent of Indiana's 4.5 million registered voters — about 2.7 million — cast ballots in the General Election. That matched the 58 percent turnout in 2004.
Lawson says Wells County in northeastern Indiana had the highest turnout in the state at 72 percent.
She says absentee ballots comprised 22 percent of the vote, compared with 24 percent in 2008.
