Indy GOP gives Pence tax cut mild reception

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Marion County Republicans are giving Gov. Mike Pence's 10 percent state income tax cut proposal a modest reception.

Pence has struggled to find support for his signature legislative proposal among members of his own party, but he hasn't backed away from it.

Republicans gathered Tuesday night for the Marion County GOP Reagan Dinner. About half of the roughly 600 attendees applauded the proposed cut, but others stayed silent.

Pence made a special appeal to Republican House Speaker Brian Bosma during his speech. Bosma approved a state budget that swaps the tax cut for more spending on roads and schools.

Bosma and Pence haven't fought publicly over the issue, but Pence hinted at tension between the two when he referred to Ronald Reagan's "11th Commandment" that Republicans not fight among themselves.
