INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - GOP Congressional candidate Marvin Scott continues to make religion a top issue in his bid to unseat Democrat incumbent André Carson in the 7th District. Scott took his campaign to 5 houses of worship today.

Scott is Christian and Carson is a Muslim. Scott is playing up that difference and proud that his approach is getting noticed around the world. "We've gotten thousands of hits on our (web) page," he said. "One-third of them are from overseas."

In fact a Japanese newspaper reporter was on hand. Keiichi Homma of Tokyo's largest newspaper, Yomiuri Shimbun, came to Indianapolis to do a story about religion. "Looks like candidate(s) divided, Christian and Muslim here, so I wanted to see what's going on," he said.

Scott is promising to battle Muslim extremism and then repeatedly blurring the line between extremists and all Muslims. "The question becomes when are young people indoctrinated into the Muslim ideal and how much are they willing to carry out? I mean, it's no different than the Japanese kamikazes," he said.

Before it was over, Scott did his best to connect the dots between radical Muslim Louis Farrakhan, the late Congresswoman Julia Carson and André Carson. "And we're putting on our web page if you go to YouTube, you can hear Louis Farakhan calling white people devils and other nonsensical rhetoric and being interviewed by a well-known reporter and after that you see him eulogizing my opponent's grandmother at her funeral."

A spokesman for Indiana Democrats calls the rhetoric an insult to voters. But some Democrats express concern that the Scott message will be welcomed by some voters.

And the Carson campaign sent over a flyer that says André Carson is the only candidate who has taken action to fight Islamic extremism and terrorism.
