INDIANAPOLIS (WISH/AP) - Mark Massa, general counsel to Governor Mitch Daniels, filed to run for Marion County Prosecutor Monday.

24-Hour News 8’s political reporter Jim Shella first reported Massa’s announcement on his political blog the same day. ( To read more click here )

On Tuesday, the Associated Press reports Massa will resign as the governor's general counsel next week if he is endorsed during the county GOP's slating meeting on Saturday.

No other Republicans are seeking the party endorsement to replace current Republican Prosecutor Carl Brizzi, who announced last month he wouldn't seek a third term this year amid a federal investigation of his former campaign finance chairman.

The 48-year-old Massa is a former deputy county prosecutor and joined Daniels' staff in 2006.

Democrats seeking their party's nomination are Marion County Assessor Greg Bowes and former deputy prosecutor Terry Curry.
