Pence announces new appointments

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Governor-elect Mike Pence announced another round of appointments Thursday.

Major General Martin Umbarger will continue to lead the National Guard and Michael Cline will stay on as the commissioner in the Department of Transportation.

Virgil Madden is a new appointment as head of the Professional Licensing Agency, and John Hill leaves a federal government post to lead Indiana Homeland Security efforts.

Meanwhile, Pence was asked if state lawmakers should delay action on an amendment to ban same-sex marriage. "That's a decision for the leaders in the Indiana General Assembly and I defer to their judgment on what should be on the agenda and when it should be on the agenda.  My views on that issue are well known," Pence said.

Pence is opposed to same-sex marriage.

The WISH TV/ Ball State Hoosier survey released yesterday showed that 54% oppose the marriage amendment that would ban it.
