INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - In an invite-only call to supporters and GOP leaders on Thursday morning, Republican Mike Pence announced he will run for governor of Indiana.

Pence was joined by his wife in the call. He said after traveling the state, his family learned where Hoosiers thought it would be best for him to serve.

“We’ve been humbled,” Pence said in the call.

24-Hour News 8 Political Reporter Jim Shella announced Pence would run in his blog Thursday morning.

The announcement comes after months of speculation that Pence would delcare his candidacy. Pence said he had heard from many people that he should seek a higher office.
