INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The antique-looking red phone poised on the corner of Indiana Gov. Mike Pence's desk is a hotline — from his wife.
Pence says he had the special phone line installed in his Washington, D.C., congressional office a dozen years ago so that she could reach him after the switchboard shut down.
Pence told reporters Monday that even though cellphones and text messaging are much more common now, he'll still have a special line to the red phone for his wife Karen's use.
Within hours of Pence being sworn in as governor, his Statehouse office had many other signs of its new occupant. That includes a table top full of photographs featuring Pence, his wife and their three children directly behind the governor's desk.
