State delays action on health care benefits

MUNSTER, Ind. (AP) - ndiana's insurance commissioner says the state won't select an Essential Health Benefits plan until after a new governor takes office.
Commissioner Stephen Robertson told federal officials in a letter this week that federal guidance on the essential benefits under the health care law has been minimal and confusing. He says that's why Indiana was unable to meet an Oct. 1 deadline for states to identify a private health plan whose coverages could be used as a minimum benchmark for all health insurance sold in the state starting in 2014.
The Times of Munster reports Robertson also wrote that Gov. Mitch Daniels solicited advice on Essential Health Benefits from the three candidates for governor but found no consensus. Daniels' term ends in January.
