INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Connie Lawson, the new Indiana secretary of state, will run for a full term in that office in 2014.

Lawson was appointed in March to fill out the remaining term of ousted Secretary of State Charlie White . The former state senator cannot begin raising money until after the Primary Election on May 8, but she said that's exactly what she will do.

"On May the 9th, I'll become a candidate for the secretary of state's office," she said.

When asked why, she responded: "I think just a lot of encouragement from a lot of county people as well as statewide people ... . And, I think people need to know what my intentions are."

Lawson has already hired a new chief of staff and is building her own team to operate the secretary of state's office.
