INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - An Indianapolis City-County Council seat is no longer vacant after Marion County Republicans voted in a new candidate.
The new Councillor replaces former IMPD officer Lincoln Plowman who resigned.
Several weeks after Lincoln Plowman resigned from the Marion County City-County Council...his seat is now filled. Plowman resigned March 8th amid an FBI investigation. Saturday morning at the Franklin Township Trustee's Office, Marion County Republicans voted in his replacement.
"I think there were several great choices," said Marion County Republican Chairman Tom John.
Five candidates delivered separate speeches about why they would be the best person for the job. Indianapolis attorney Aaron Freeman received the most votes.
"I think we have a great choice, but I think there could have been others.. I hate to say anybody's the best," said John.
"It's probably one of the bigger honors of my life," said Aaron Freeman, new district 25 Councillor.
Freeman has never held a political position. He said his first priority will be learning the job.
"I've never met some of the councilors for example, so there's relationships I need to build, there's obviously legislation I need to become familiar with," Freeman said.
Freeman said he will represent district 25 to the best of his abilities.
"I know who I am and I'm going to work every day to make these people very proud," said Freeman.
"What happened before, nobody really still knows yet, but what we know now is we've got a great city-county councilor moving forward and we can get beyond all the stories were involving that," said John.
Freeman's first day on the City-County Council is on Monday.
