INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - 4G, a faster speed of internet access, has come to Indianapolis... well actually the airport and a little bit more.

Verizon Wireless is launching the service officially December 5 but the switch has already been flicked in adjacent areas to the Indianapolis International Airport, like parts of Plainfield.

But before you think that your phone or laptop will get faster the next time you're waiting for a flight there's a hitch, you need new equipment.

A new laptop USB device will be available beginning Sunday and new phones are more down the road. Now as to how fast it is... we did a side-by-side test of 3G and the new 4G. A program that on 3G took about 20 minutes to download took just 1 minute on 4G. And a movie trailer took twice as long to view because of all the buffering on 3G.

Folks from Verizon say the service will be available for Indianapolis as a whole sometime in 2011.

Oh and as long as I was there I did try to find out when the iPhone is coming to their network and there answer was the same as the last four times I asked... we don't know.
