GREENWOOD, Ind. (WISH) - Several witnesses took pictures of at least one funnel cloud in Johnson County Thursday afternoon. Reports of damage came in to 24-Hour News 8 just minutes after tornado sirens sounded in the county.
The National Weather Service has confirmed that a "landspout tornado" touched down briefly in the Greenwood area ( here is a link to their statement ).
Chopper 8 flew over the area and captured pictures of a home with roof damage and a corn field that had visible tornado damage.
24-Hour News 8 received reports of damage on the ground at Tracey Road and Whiteland Road. A pole barn suffered roof damage near the intersection of CR 135 and Smoke Row Road.
Dispatchers said they too received several calls reporting funnel clouds.
Forecast 8 Chief Meteorologist Steve Bray spoke with the National Weather Service in Indianapolis who said they received reports of a funnel cloud and reports of a tornado on the ground.
Bray says there was a very slight signature of a tornado on Forecast 8 VIPIR.
