INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - As Colts fans get ready for the 2010 Super Bowl many people are also preparing for the one two years away.

Indianapolis will host the game in 2012.

Friday morning, the committee leading the effort introduced two new programs that they hope all of Central Indiana will embrace.

One is the "Super Scarves" program. It aims to have 8,000 blue and white scarves knitted, for volunteers to wear when the big game arrives. Organizers want anyone who knits or would like to learn how to pick up a scarf kit at one of several local knitting stores. The public library system is also offering knitting classes. The second initiative is called the "Green Corps."

For the next two years, hundreds of current high school sophomores will serve as environmental ambassadors, encouraging people to change their habits.

"Carpooling to work, carpooling to school, checking sensors on your sprinklers in your landscaping, installing 3-way lamps, using fans to move the air throughout your house, simple things," said Sara Snow of the 2012 Super Bowl Host Committee. "Air-drying your dishes, air-drying your laundry. Very simple, simple things that actually will add up."

Ben Davis Sophomore Gigi Cabello said, "I hope to encourage my whole entire school district Wayne Township to get involved in the community. We need to start small and then eventually make our whole township and ultimately the whole city look good."

Organizers will gauge the success of the Green Corps program through a Web site .

It features a carbon tracker and a water tracker. The trackers gauge how much the organizers claim the city is saving when people take various "green" steps.
