SPEEDWAY, Ind. (WISH) - It is the biggest weekend of the year for race fans and the city of Indianapolis. The 93rd running of the Indy 500 is this Sunday and there is plenty of action out at the track.

Tens of thousands of race fans crowded the Speedway grounds Friday for Carb Day events.

A few of the fans got a little out of hand. See what happens to one fan who police apparently wanted to have a word with by clicking on the link in the left margin of this story.

The weather was perfect and most in attendance wore short sleeves and shorts while enjoying the day.

IMS officials traditionally do not give out attendance figures. However, 24-Hour News 8 spoke with numerous people who said nothing could keep them from the festivities. They also say the economy while a factor is not throwing a damper on their fun.

Race fan Lindy Funkhouser said, “I’m already set, I planned it out, I saved up and I’m here today.”

“Everything is looking good for us. We’re looking forward to a big weekend… our two biggest days of the year, so you know we are optimistic about sells,” said Jason Orton who sells memorabilia at IMS.
