INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Less than a week after the IndyCar series and Randy Bernard parted ways, interim CEO Jeff Belskus, who also holds the same role at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway spoke out about the search for a replacement and the series future.
Belskus says the series is looking for a leader with experience, not necessarily in motorsports, someone who can communicate well and gets along with the key stakeholders.
As for the series itself?
"We're looking for a growing, healthy, sustainable IndyCar series. There are pockets of growth, and pockets of health, but there are also areas that need improvement, and we recognize that," said Belskus. "What is at the top of the list? A-1 at the top of the list is our fan base, we've got to grow our fan base and we've got to find ways to create awareness with fans and engage them, and continue to grow the fan base."
Belskus also told 24-Hour News 8 there would not be any more changes at the top, and says the board hopes to have someone in place by the start of the season in March.
He's not ruling himself out.
He also says the rumors of Tony George wanting to buy the series is true.
"We did receive an expression of interest from Tony, that's been widely reported, but the series is not for sale and we're not considering any offers of any kind, so no, the series is not for sale."
