Carb Day gives drivers final practice

SPEEDWAY, Ind. (WISH) - The Target Chip Ganassi cars are back, placing on top of the speed charts in the final Indy 500 practice during Carb Day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Dario Franchitti and Scott Dixon turned the two fastest speeds of the day. Franchitti and Dixon were disappointed with their cars during qualifications last weekend, both placing in row 5 for the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, but made adjustments during the week and had the best cars Friday running over 222 mph.

Andretti Autosports and Team Penske drivers make up the front two rows for the 500 and continued to showcase their speed today. Marco Andretti, James Hinchcliffe and Ryan Hunter-Reay of Andretti Autosports and Team Penske’s Will Power and Ryan Briscoe all had top ten speeds.

Carb Day top-ten speeds:

  1. Dario Franchitti – 222.360 mph
  2. Scott Dixon – 222.274 mph
  3. Marco Andretti – 221.702 mph
  4. Takuma Sato – 221.078 mph
  5. Ryan Briscoe – 221.025 mph
  6. Justin Wilson – 220.915 mph
  7. Will Power – 220.394 mph
  8. James Hinchcliffe – 220.309 mph
  9. Tony Kanaan – 220.193 mph
  10. Ryan Hunter-Reay – 219.912 mph

Sam Schmidt Autosports’ Estaban Guerrieri won The Indy Lights Freedom 100 which followed Friday’ final practice. The 40-lap race was Guerrieri’s second win of the season. With today’s victory, Guerrieri moved into 1st place in the Indy Lights driving standings.
