INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Celebrity chef Guy Fieri will be the pace car driver for the 2012 Indianapolis 500, Indianapolis Motor Speedway officials announced Tuesday morning.

Fieri, who appears on several Food Network shows, was widely rumored to be the pace car driver, and 24-Hour News 8 had earlier reported he would be selected.

On his most popular show, “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives,” Fieri begins the program driving a 1968 Chevrolet Camaro SS convertible. On race day, he’ll be driving a 2013 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1.

"There are races and then there are races," Fieri said in a news release. "And without a doubt, the Indy 500 is the race that I've always wanted to attend. And now, to be driving the Corvette Pace Car ... this is going to be unbelievable."

Fieri visited the Circle City earlier this year for the Super Bowl and corresponding activities. Watch the video from one of his appearances in Indianapolis, when he discusses his impressions of the city.
