INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - IndyCar is no stranger to foreign lands but in 2012, the IZOD IndyCar Series will make China one of four international destinations.
IndyCar drivers will hit the streets in Quingdao for a 3.87 mile street circuit in the city on the Yellow Sea.
The leap to China is something series sponsors wanted to see, said IndyCar CEO Randy Bernard.
"As the world global economy continues to grow and evolve, China, the world's second-largest economy, has become a top priority with most American businesses and the sponsors that are committed to INDYCAR," he said.
Referred to as “China’s Switzerland,” Quingdao is heavily influenced by French and German culture. As such, the Aug. 19 race will coincide with the Qingdao International Beer Festival.
IndyCar will also race in Toronto, São Paulo and Edmonton.
