SPEEDWAY, Ind. (WISH) - The drivers have just two more days to prepare for Indianapolis 500 Pole Day on Saturday.
Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing and Andretti Autosport have been consistent at the top of the speed charts through the first five days of practice. Josef Newgarden turned the fast lap of the day Wednesday for the third time this week. Newgarden clocked a lap at 222.785 mph, but it will be interesting to see how the rookie responds Thursday. Newgarden lost control coming out turn four with just 15 minutes to go in the practice session yesterday and hit the inside wall .
"It's obviously the first incident. It has to be me, which is just great,” Newgarden joked. "I got really, really lucky I would say. I tried to keep it off the wall. It could have been a lot worse. I think it's just one of those deals. I think everyone's learning out here.”
Dragon Racing is the other team to keep an eye on Thursday. The two-car team of Sebastien Bourdais and Katherine Legge has not practiced yet because of a dispute with engine manufacturer Lotus. Sources tell 24-Hour News 8 Sports Reporter Chris Widlic that the team is close to finally hitting the track with Chevrolet engines. Legge is scheduled to do her rookie orientation Thursday morning.
Sports Director Anthony Calhoun and the WISH-TV sports team will continue to have all of your Indianapolis 500 coverage starting Thursday live at noon from Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
