SPEEDWAY, Ind. (WISH) - IndyCar teams have clocked 24 hours of practice time and have only three more days until qualifications on Saturday, May 19. Wednesday will be the fifth day of practice and here are a few things to expect.
Strong practice times from Andretti Autosport drivers. Marco Andretti and Sebastian Saavedra have both clocked best speeds during the four Indianapolis 500 practices. Tuesday also marked the third day that Andretti Autosports has had a driver in the top five of speed. Expect to see more from the five-car Andretti Autosports team as they continue to send multiple drivers at a time on the track to practice race conditions.
Even more good weather. The Forecast 8 team forecasts a highs in the 70s with only a chance of early morning showers. Driving conditions should continue to be ideal for IndyCar teams to continue testing.
Speeds above 220mph. On Tuesday, 14 drivers topped the 220 mph mark. Monday's practice had 10 drivers over 220 mph and only seven drivers had speeds above 220 mph on opening weekend. Teams are more comfortable with the cars and are beginning to increase speed.
Improved speeds for Lotus engines, but still behind the pack. Simona De Silvestro and Jean Alesi have both eclipsed 210 mph with their Lotus engine, but they are still behind Honda and Chevy. De Silvestro posted a speed of 210.315 mph on Monday, but that was still 7 mph behind the next closest driver.
WISH-TV Sports Director Anthony Calhoun and team will continue to have all of your Indianapolis 500 coverage starting Wednesday live at noon from Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
