INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - It's rare for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to see any on track action in the month of October, but the track was looking its best this week for the IndyCar support series.
A crisp, sparkling afternoon for the Star Mazda Series regulars to show their stuff on the road course on the second of two days of testing.
The setup is designed to provide drivers with the opportunity for seat time in USF-2000, Star Mazda and Firestone Indy Lights cars on the road course at IMS while allowing them to showcase their talents to potential teams for the 2013 season. Former Lights champion, now Sarah Fisher racing driver, Josef Newgarden was on hand to mentor the young drivers.
“It’s weird. I’ve been saying the weirdest things,” says Newgarden. “I’ve been calling some of these guys kids, they’re like the same age as me, and I hated when someone called me a kid, and now I say it for some reason. I’m definitely not far away, I’m just out of the ladder system. My first year in the Izod Indycar series was 2012, and I’ve still got a whole lot to learn.”
The Series wrapped up after two days of testing under sunny skies at the speedway.
