SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WISH) - There’s no better friend to a quarterback than his left tackle, especially to a young quarterback.
“Zack Martin has been tremendous,” said Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson.
Former Chatard product Zack Martin has been an integral part of the new era of Notre Dame. At left tackle, he’s gotten 38 consecutive starts, anchoring an offensive line that has given up just 13 sacks and paved the way for a run game, getting almost 5 yards a carry this season. He’s also provided a safety net in more ways than one for a developing quarterback.
“It really helps me out just coming off the field and just going and talking to Zach,” said Golson. “He tells me what he’s getting, just us having that communication definitely helps me out a lot.”
Martin’s performances have gotten him noticed so much that many expected him to go high in the 2013 NFL Draft, but the Indianapolis local decided otherwise, choosing to stay one more year.
“This season has been so much fun,” said Martin. “I’ve had a great time with all the guys on the team, and for the first time here every week, you go out and say we’re going to win this game.”
His teammates couldn’t be more pleased.
“Oh I’m definitely happy,” said Notre Dame running back Theo Riddick. “He’s very loving, very caring. Just to hear that he’s coming back next year shows the type of person he is.”
