Clarke taken off court on stretcher

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Butler senior guard Rotnei Clarke was taken off on a stretcher during the first half of the Bulldogs game with Dayton on Saturday. 

The Flyers’ Matt Derenbecker fouled Clarke hard as he went up for a lay-up. The Butler senior jammed his head into the basketball stanchion as he landed. 

He remained down on the ground for almost eight minutes before being taken off the floor. 

Clarke was experiencing numbness in his hands, but was able to move them and give a “thumbs up” sign. He was taken to the hospital for a CT scan and x-rays, standard procedure for the symptoms Clarke is experiencing.

X-rays revealed no fractures. Clarke was able to ride home with the team.

An MRI confirmed a significant neck sprain. His spinal cord and cervical discs were viewed normal, according to a release.

Clarke received treatment and did a light workout on Sunday.
