INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - It's been a big week for soccer in the Circle City. A day after Indianapolis was awarded a NASL pro franchise, Major League Soccer teed up their draft at the convention center.
IU star and Westfield native Eriq Zavalata was the 10th overall pick by Seattle in the SuperDraft.
Zavaleta led the Hoosiers in scoring on the way to helping his team win the NCAA championship. He told 24-Hour News 8 he was relieved hearing his name called after such a special season.
"Yeah, I couldn't have asked for a better couple of months," said Zavaleta. "I joked around saying if I dreamed it, it would be like this. And to be in Indianapolis and get picked by such a great organization and to win a national championship prior to that, who could ask for a better couple of months."
Seattle has one of the top fan bases in the league, and Zavaleta says he’s ready to contribute once the season begins in the summer.
