INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - For the second time in a week, an Indiana college has won a national championship. Earlier this week, Indiana won in men's soccer. Thursday, it was the Marian University football team.
When Marian first fielded a football team in 2006, the Knights didn't even have a field to practice on.
Thursday, just six years later, the team played for a championship. The team faced off against Morningside College from Iowa for the NAIA championship.
The Knights trailed by 10, but they rallied to force overtime.
In the extra time, Michael Josifovski booted the game winner.
The Knights won the NAIA title, 30-27.
The team is expected to return to campus Friday night and will be recognized between two basketball games.
