SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - Seventh-ranked North Dakota skated into Notre Dame for the first time in 31 years and skated off with a 2-1 win Friday over the sixth-ranked Fighting Irish.
Notre Dame outshot North Dakota 36-17, but goalie Clarke Saunders made 35 saves.
Nick Mattson scored his first goal of the season and Danny Kristo netted his fifth for North Dakota, which improved to 16-6-6 in its last 28 regular season nonconference games.
North Dakota was outshot 18-6 in the first period, but it took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Nick Mattson with just 3 seconds left in the period. It was Mattson's first goal of the season.
Danny Kristo added an insurance goal on the power play at 2:49 of the second but Anders Lee answered for the Figthing Irish at 5:25 of the period to cut the North Dakota lead to 2-1.
