Notre Dame beats Miami 41-3

CHICAGO (WISH) - Ninth ranked Notre Dame used a powerful run game and a stifling defense to easily beat Miami at Soldier Field 41-3.

The Irish scored an early touchdown and piled it on in the second half against the young 4-1 Hurricanes.

Tommy Rees played the first series when sophomore starter Everett Golson was held out for disciplinary reasons, but when Golson returned, the Irish got it done on the ground.

The rushing numbers are remarkable for the 5-0 Irish. 51 carries for 376 yards, a 7.4 average per carry and five touchdowns.

The 5-0 Irish, who once again did not turn the ball over were led by George Atkinson, Junior’s 123 yards on the ground, while Cierre Wood added 118 more.

Defensively, the Irish snuffed out Miami’s passing attack, and are now the only team in NCAA division one to not have trailed all year long. The defense has also yet to give up a rushing score.

Next week, Notre Dame will host Stanford in South Bend.
