INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Purdue standout forward Robbie Hummel has taken the first step on his road to recovery. The junior underwent reconstructive surgery on the ACL in his right knee Monday.
Purdue coach Matt Painter says Monday's surgery was scheduled in Indianapolis and the standard recovery time is 4 to 6 months.
Hummel was injured while driving to the basket on Feb. 24 against Minnesota . He ranks second on the team with 15.7 points and 6.9 rebounds a game.
Painter said the surgery was scheduled fairly quickly because Hummel has regained some strength and range of motion, and the swelling has subsided.
Painter doesn't expect Hummel to accompany the sixth-ranked Boilermakers when they play in the Big Ten tournament quarterfinals on Friday.
