The caller said to the dispatcher, "There's this guy walking around without his shirt on and he's standing right next to my car. Like he walked across the street and tried to stand by my car so I drove off, but I think he's out of it.”
When officers arrived at the scene they confronted the man who was later identified as Pat McAfee.
According to the police report, the officer immediately smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from McAfee, his eyes were watery red and blood shot, his speech was slurred and he was soaking wet.
The officer asked him if he had been swimming in the canal near Broad Ripple. McAfee responded, “I am not sure.” When asked why he was soaking wet. McAfee said “It was raining.” However, no rain has fallen in the Indianapolis area since Monday.
The officer then asked McAfee where his shirt was and he stated, “It is in the water.”
The police report states McAfee was asked how much he had to drink. He responded, “A lot cause I am drunk.”
McAfee submitted to a portable breathalyzer test and blew a .15.
At that time he was arrested for public intoxication and transported to the APC. McAfee had $171 on him when he was taken into custody.
Indianapolis Colts President Bill Polian released a statement Wednesday morning:
"We are aware that Pat McAfee was arrested this morning and charged with public intoxication. We are in the process of gathering the relevant facts. When that task is complete, we will deal immediately with the issue of club discipline. Until we complete that process, we will have no further comment."
McAfee will appear in court Friday morning.
