The Colts held their final night practice before they break camp Wednesday morning. The players can’t wait to head back to Indianapolis.
"My bags are packed, my car might be started. I'm ready to go," said offensive lineman Ryan Lilja.
The big news coming out of camp on Tuesday involved cornerback Kelvin Hayden. He didn't practice Tuesday night because of a hamstring injury he suffered in morning practice. Head Coach Jim Caldwell said he expects Hayden to be out 3-4 weeks.
Hayden is far from the only Colts starter on the mend. Caldwell said Monday that defensive end Raheem Brock is expected to miss the rest of the preseason after breaking his left hand in Friday night's preseason game against the Vikings. Caldwell said Brock would miss 2-4 weeks, but he expects him to be ready for the regular season opener September 13 at home against Jacksonville.
Despite the injuries, Tuesday’s night practice brought out another great crowd to watch the Colts in action on the Rose Hulman campus.
Colts tight end Dallas Clark said, "Practice was a little sluggish today to be honest with you...I don't think this is the practice we wanted to break camp with. We'll definitely watch film and see some good things."
Though he admits he's ready to go, Lilja thought it was great being out there under the lights.
“Tonight was the first time that we had all of our five offensive linemen in there together in a practice in a preseason. We had guys get dinged up and what not...it was great to get some live work against our defense with the last practice here.”
Defensive back Marlin Jackson, who is coming off knee surgery, believes he had a solid camp.
“I feel real good, I feel great. I am positive right now. I am just trying to practice and my process is still ongoing and getting better every day.” said Jackson.
Jackson echoed his teammates' desire to get back to the comforts of home.
"Of course we are all ready to break training camp and get back home, sleep in our own beds, get to relax in our own house and our own rooms. So yeah, we are looking forward to getting back to Indianapolis," he said
The Colts final practice is Wednesday at 9:30 p.m.
