Coach Jim Caldwell said he was uncertain whether Vinatieri would be able to kick when training camp opens in August, but that Vinatieri should be ready for the regular season.

Vinatieri is known as the best clutch kicker in league history.

He made the winning kick in two of New England's Super Bowl victories and has won four Super Bowl rings in 13 NFL seasons.
