INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The Indianapolis Colts said they will honor two men credited with pulling a truck driver from a tanker fire on the northeast side of Indianapolis Thursday morning. The tanker exploded soon after, causing a massive fireball and a smoke cloud that could be seen for miles.
The men will be honored at next weekend's home game against the San Francisco 49ers. The game starts at 1 p.m.
One of the rescuers, Lonnie Hood, spoke to 24-Hour News 8 Thursday. Hood said he didn't really think about that fact that he was risking his life while pulling the driver to safety.
"Not really that I could die. It did cross my mind that the truck was going to blow up in my face because it was on fire with diesel and everything. It was on fire pretty good. I was like, 'Is it going to blow up or is it not?' But when I saw (the truck driver), everything else went blank. It was like there he is, I’m not going to leave him, I’m going to get him and we’re going to get out of here. Instinct took over and that’s just what happened."
The Colts said they will soon release more details about the
event.
