INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The Indianapolis Colts say former defensive player of the year Bob Sanders is out for the remainder of the season.

The Colts released a statement Friday saying they are putting Sanders on injured reserve.

Sanders has only played in two games this season and less than half of the team's games in his career with the Colts.

The statement read:

"The Indianapolis Colts have placed safety Bob Sanders on injured reserve with the left elbow injury he sustained last Sunday against San Francisco."

"Sanders will undergo surgery for a torn biceps and will miss the rest of the season."

The statement also said the Colts signed tight end Tom Santi Friday. Santi appeared in six games with the club last season and he has spent time this year on the practice squad. He had 10 career receptions for 64 yards and one touchdown, the statement said.
