INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - It’s only a matter of hours before Andrew Luck’s No. 12 Indianapolis Colts jersey goes on sale.
24-Hour News 8 got a special look at the jersey early Thursday morning.
Dave Moroknek, president and CEO of MainGate Inc., says as soon as Luck gets drafted around 8:05 Thursday night, those jerseys will go on sale at the Colts Pro Shop, Circle Centre Mall downtown, and online.
Moroknek says the stores will stay open until 11 p.m. Thursday.
They’re going for $115 for the men’s, $110 for the women’s, and $89 for the children’s sizes.
“It’s very exciting, we’ve been hearing about the number one draft pick for a long time," Moroknek says. "It’s been a little bit secretive as to who we were going to pick, but it’s out there now, we’re going to take Luck, and the demand is going to be through the roof. Everyone is so happy, he’s going to be a perfect ambassador for the city, and a great person to lead the Colts back to our winning ways.”
Luck is set to arrive in Indy Friday, and the team is hosting a draft party at Lucas Oil Stadium to welcome him. He’ll be formally introduced to fans during that event. It runs from 6-9 p.m. Fans can also collect autographs from current and former Colts players.
Luck's jersey number is 12 - the number he's worn through high school and college.
But the Colts already have a No. 12 on their roster: fourth-year pro Quan Cosby, a wide receiver and kick returner who signed with the team late last season. He's been wearing No. 12 during voluntary camp all week, but he knows he'll give it up.
"It wouldn't matter anyway. If that's his number, and he wants to stick with that number and that's what he feels most comfortable in ... that's what he should. He has a pretty important role on the team so we want him to be as comfortable as possible," Cosby said. "So being a team player, I know any guy in the locker room would do it, unless, maybe Reggie, because he's had that for a while. But just being a team player, I'll do what's best for the team.”
Word is, he’s set to wear No. 14 when the Colts get back on the field for May mini camp.
