Chuckstrong leads one fan to shave her head

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - About three dozen Colts players including quarterback Andrew Luck have shaved their heads over the past week in support of coach Chuck Pagano, who is battling leukemia. Now one longtime Colts fan decided to take the plunge as well.

Recently, Jess Schriner, an accountant from Hilliard, Ohio, and a season ticket holder, buzzed off her long locks in a matter of 10 minutes.

"It was a little shocking," said Schriner. "It was fine to feel it, but seeing it was a little bit different."

For Schriner, it had meaning past support for Pagano. The decision dates back almost 20 years ago. That's when her older sister Jennifer passed away from a form of leukemia.

Jess, only 14 at the time, was her bone marrow donor.

"We were inseparable," said Schriner. "We did everything together. It was amazing."

Schriner knows first-hand what a simple gesture like shaving one's head can mean to those fighting the disease.

"Just to show them [the support]. They're the ones fighting the fight; the least I can do is shave my head," she said.  "They just deserve it."

Jess now plans to give more than support to those battling leukemia. She's donating her hair to Locks of Love, an organization that makes wigs for kids who have lost their hair.
