INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - It's easy to see the improvement this Colts team is making on both sides of the ball.
The passing game with the rookie tight ends, the run defense, banged up but coming up in a big way against Cleveland, and special teams have been just that, special, but there's one area that's really struggling.
The Colts are dead last in the NFL in takeaways. They've only got three turnovers in six games. One fumble recovery in the win over the Vikings, one interception by Jerraud Powers in the victory over Green Bay, and that memorable pick six from new linebacker and top tackler Jerrell Freeman to open the scoring in the season opener in Chicago.
Freeman says that should start changing soon, at least he hopes so.
"We're not doing too good in that area right now, but like I said to the guys, its growing in the defense, we're still understanding the defense. We're understanding when we can and can't take chances, it might, but i hope it doesn't take too much longer, we should start getting some turnovers, the guys are getting pretty comfortable with the defense."
The new 3-4 defense has had a lot of changing parts due to injury, but guys like cornerback Vontae Davis and rush linebacker Robert Mathis, who's missed the last two games thrive on taking the ball away and helping change the momentum.
That's exactly what this team needs to win on the road, a big momentum changing play, something the Colts are focusing in on as they look towards a trip to Nashville to meet 3-4 Tennessee.
