INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A little unnecessary drama at Lucas Oil Stadium, but the Colts reconstructed offensive line held together just long enough to give Andrew Luck and that two-minute offense enough time to win in their home opener against Minnesota.
"To get a win was something I've really wanted for this team and for me personally, we won't have that looming over ourselves for the next game, and very proud to be associated with this franchise," said Andrew Luck, who was very good, throwing two touchdowns, and staying interception-free.
For a kicker, it doesn't get better than a game winner, especially from beyond 50 yards, and Adam Vinatieri had a handful of these in his long career.
"It's always special anytime you go out and help your team win a game and put points on the board, it's a great feeling no matter what the distance is or what the circumstances are but it's nice to go out there and still show them there's still lead in the pencil, so it's a good time," said the veteran kicker.
Coach Chuck Pagano was like a proud father.
"Our motto, which we've said since day one is sixty minutes, one play at a time, all you got," Pagano said. "We'll never apologize for winning no matter how you win, no matter how you get it done, these guys fought, hung in there and found a way to win at the end of the game."
The team was asked how tough would it have been to lose a game like this after the Colts had it in control.
"Very tough. We're a young team, but at the same time, it would be a valuable lesson that you've got to play for sixty minutes, you just can't. Nothing is a gimme in the NFL, so you have to play every second of every game," said Robert Mathis, who added his third sack of the season in the early going.
"To be able to go out there with thirty-something seconds left, we kind of put it together, and to get the winning field goal was big, we've just got to not shoot ourselves in the foot and put teams away when we had the opportunity," added Reggie Wayne, who caught a touchdown pass in the second quarter.
Wayne added that there's a world of difference between 1-1 and 0-2, especially with a young team. It's all about confidence.
