Colts GM Grigson at NFL combine

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The NFL world is back for the annual scouting combine at Lucas Oil Stadium, but unlike a year ago, there's no Andrew Luck or Robert Griffin III to steal the headlines.

Hundreds of draft-eligible college athletes are working out and meeting with team personnel.

Both sides are hoping they can find the right fit for the April draft. That includes the NFL's executive of the year, Colts General Manager Ryan Grigson.

He’s on hand to do his homework and meet the media. Grigson says he's excited his team has a lot of cap room to do some free agent shopping, and some of that could start at home with some of his own, like Fili Moala, Pat MacAfee and Jerraud Powers.

"Yeah, I won't go into any names but I've reached out to some guys on our team that we'd like to re-sign,” said Grigson. "I've sat down with players that I've tried to explain situations to because I feel like I try to put all the cards on the table as I can to be as up front as I can so everyone can get a glimpse of what direction we're headed."

"As a former player, you'd at least like to let them know what you're thinking to a point, because you want them to be able to wrap their head around their career and their future because there is unease on their end too."

The Colts have the 24th pick in the draft, and Grigson says he’s expecting to get a “blue” or starting type player with that choice.
