Five Colts starters yet to practice

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The Colts defensive depth will be put under the test when they meet the Jets Sunday.

Five starters have yet to practice this week, three of them are already ruled out. This is not what they want to hear when they're preparing for a road game.

Fili Moala, Pat Angerer and Robert Mathis will miss the game with assorted injuries, while Vontae Davis and Dwight Freeney are hobbled, and will not be at or near 100 percent against New York.

New defensive coordinator Greg Manusky says it'll hurt especially on the pass rush. He's still waiting to see Freeney and Mathis together at their best.

“We haven’t had Robert and Dwight out there at the same time for very long. I think it was six plays in the opener until we got three plus quarters with them against Green Bay. It’s always a pinch, and that’s what the National Football League is. Those backup players have to step up, and they’ve got to perform at a high level, and that’s what we’re looking for in New York,” said Manusky.
