Manning undergoes 'procedure' on hurt neck

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH/AP) - Four-time league MVP Quarterback Peyton Manning has undergone a procedure to relieve pain in his neck, the team says.

A statement released by the team Wednesday afternoon said that, intermittently over the past four years, Manning has been suffering from pain caused by a pinched nerve.

"At no time did it interfere with his training, practice or playing regimen. While it never has affected Peyton’s activity on or off the field, the Colts’ medical staff, after post-playoff examination, thought it best to resolve the situation now," the press release goes on to say.

The procedure was performed by Dr. Richard Fessler in Chicago.

The team says "all medical personnel involved believe the issue has been resolved."

Manning fully expects to participate in the Colts’ off-season program this spring, according to the release.

Manning has never missed a start in his 12-year NFL career. His streak of 210 consecutive starts, including the playoffs, is second all-time among quarterbacks to Brett Favre.
