INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Five-time Pro Bowl wide out Reggie Wayne once again made an eye-opening hum-vee arrival with seven national guard soldiers from the 38th combat aviation brigade in Shelbyville, and for Reggie, the message was serious and clear.
"These guys are selfless workers, they put it all on the line, and that's exactly what we'll have to do this year," Wayne said.
This is serious business.
"It is. It's as serious as it gets," Wayne said. "This is us supporting Colts nation. These guys in the Army reserve do a great job of supporting this country, and the only thing we have to do is support Colts nation, so if they can do it for a whole country, we should be able to take care of our end."
Lamont Sullivan of the reserve brigade says the whole idea came together in the last 24 hours, and he and the National Guard were happy to do it.
"He's been awesome supporting us," Sullivan said. "If we call him, he shows every time, he's not let us down once, so it's awesome we can support him in what he does."
The rest of the Colts rolled into Anderson University in a more understated fashion, loaded with their creature comforts of TVs and pillows.
As for the NFL's top draft pick? Andrew Luck was an early bird with his own idea of a camp-must-have.
"Probably my I-pad, well the playbook I-pad, that's for sure, but also my personal I-pad,"said the recent Stanford graduate, who says he actually likes the camp lifestyle. "I do. Your life turns very simple. I appreciate that during camp, you really have just football to focus on and not much else and that excites me."
Luck says his own expectations will begin ramping up right away.
"You get a little more sense of urgency," Luck said. "Training camp is getting the season going really, so you understand there are games coming up so you put a little more pressure on yourself to make sure you really are in the playbook and understanding the nuances of what's going on."
The fields at Anderson University are green, painted, and ready to go.
The Colts opens practice Sunday morning, and with a new staff the schedule is different. Very few two-a-days as the countdown to the preseason opener in two weeks is on.
