INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - What’s next for the Colts? If man who put the Colts franchise on the NFL map is gone as reported by ESPN , the future is now. It’s rebuild, not reload.
Jim Irsay has already said he will draft a quarterback with the top pick, many of us assume it will be Stanford’s Andrew Luck. His pro day later this month will be telling, not that there’s any doubt about his arm, but seeing what teams will be there in Palo Alto to watch him will be interesting.
Huge question marks surround Luck’s potential weapons. Wideouts Reggie Wayne and Pierre Garcon are free agents and might not return, the same with Anthony Gonzalez.
New head coach Chuck Pagano and GM Ryan Grigson haven’t talked much about how the offense will be structured, but they will need some speed either way.
It is hard to tell what the offensive line will look as well. Longtime tackle Ryan Diem and center Jeff Saturday are both contemplating retirement.
The defense will also take on a new look. Pagano prefers a 3-4, something very different to what the Colts have run in the past, meaning Dwight Freeney and/or Robert Mathis may have to rush from the linebacker position.
Pagano did say he wants both back, and the Colts have just signed a long-term deal with Mathis . Free agency officially begins March 13, and for the first time in memory, the Colts could be players.
